	Instructions for Searching

Basic Instructions

Type in the name of the business or organization you want to find and then select the appropriate country. You can type in the town, too, if you'd like to narrow the search
or
Type in the town and select the appropriate country (remember, there's a Newton in just about every English-speaking country...) to find all the organizations and businesses in that town
or
Select the type of organization you'd like to know more about from the pop-up menu.
e.g., if you want to find Northbound Leather in Canada, type northbound (the case does not matter) in the Name field and select Canada from the Country pop-up field.
If you want to find all names that begin with north in Canada, type north (the case does not matter) in the Name field and select Canada from the Country pop-up field. In this case, Northbound Leather would be one of the returned items.
If you want to find all the publishers of BDSM magazines in Canada, select Publisher, Magazines, BDSM from the Type pop-up field, and select Canada from the Country pop-up field.
If you want to find all organizations and businesses in England, select England from the Country pop-up field and select the blank option at the bottom of the Type pop-up field..
Select how you'd like the returned information sorted.
Click the Search Now button.

This will start a search of our database and return a list of found organizations and/or businesses. Click on any of the returned items for more information and any available Web links and e-mail.

Instructions for Advanced Users

Fill in one or more fields with words or abbreviations of words. The order of the words is ignored. For example rain sun matches rain or sun and sunny with rainbows but not sun (because there is no rain).

To match a phrase, enclose it in double quotes, for example: "ice cream" matches ice cream cones and ice creams but not cream and ice.

The following special characters may also be used:
(some are not applicable e.g. we have neither date nor numeric fields in this particular database).

@ matches one arbitrary character; for example @rain matches train but not rain or strain
* matches zero or more arbitrary characters; for example *bow matches bow and rainbow
= forces the words to be an exact match; for example =sun rain matches rain and sun but not sunny with rainbows
< and > works in both numeric and date fields
// in a date field means "today"
? in a date field finds invalid dates or times
! finds all records that contain duplicate entries in that field

To find text containing special characters, enclose the text in double quotes. For example use "aname@anaddress" would find the email address aname@anaddress.
